AFTER interruptions to the first week of two-day fixtures for the male sides and a week off for the female sides, matches resumed for Midland Guildford Cricket Club during the past weekend.

The female A grade dominated in their match against South Perth as they won in a resounding manner by 200 runs.
After winning the toss and batting first, strong performances from Abbie Whybrow (64 from 77) and Naomi Dattani (82 from 103) propelled the score to 292 all out.

Shay Manolini produced a spell of 5-19 from 7.3 overs in a performance that helped dismiss their opposition for a total of just 92 all out.

The male 1st grade side were unable to play on day one of their match against Mount Lawley but were still able to manage a seven-wicket victory after a declaration from their opponents allowed for a result to be possible in the match.

Regan Hill was the best performing bowler with three wickets for 39 runs from 8.5 overs, helping the side limit their opposition to 5-219 from 51.5 overs before they declared their innings.

With the target set at 220 for victory, Austin Thomas (94 runs from 113 balls) and Keaton Critchell (78 not out from 64) were the key contributors to chasing down the total in 41.3 overs.

With only one session of play possible on the first day of the male 2nd grade, the score was 1-64 from 29 overs at stumps after being sent in to bat first by their opponents.

Hayden Collins resumed the day on 28 not out and would score 91 from 204, while Calan Hill smashed 50 from 37 to help the side set 5-237 from 66.4 overs as they declared at lunch.

With Mount Lawley needing 238 for victory from 63 overs, the bowlers kept control over the match for the entire innings.

Jack Giancono took 4-26 from 13.4 overs (including the final two wickets) and Ben Skinner, Jacob Heslop and Lennon Brookes all took two wickets as well.

With just 6.2 overs remaining in the day, the side bowled their opposition out for 106 to secure victory by 131 runs.

In the male 3rd grade match, the side set Mount Lawley a target of 150 for victory after Harry Giancono made 64 not out from 161 but were unable to take all ten wickets as they fell short, and the match ended in a draw.

Tom Hayward and Ashley Mucciarone both took three wickets, but it wasn’t enough as their opposition survived with two wickets remaining at the end of the second day’s play.

The male 4th grade saw no play on day one of their match.

After winning the toss and bowling, the side would bowl 63.3 overs before eventually dismissing their opponents for a total of just 82 runs.

Ethan Ozanne took 5-25 from 19.3 overs in an outstanding performance, while captain Matt Hampson took 4-20 from 20 overs.

It took just 12.2 overs to chase down the target, with Kobe Fernie top scoring with 43 not out from 30 in the successful run chase with eight wickets to spare.

In the female B grade match against Wanneroo, it was a narrow 17-run victory for the side.

After posting a total of just 9-132 from 40 overs, the bowlers managed a combined effort that ensured they dismissed their opponents for 115.

Laura Croft (4-26 from eight overs) and Brodie Stewart (3-17 from 5.2 overs) were the main bowlers in the victory.

The junior male matches saw the male U17 and male U15 play Mount Lawley in a revised T20 fixture.

The male U17 lost by seven wickets as Mitchell Pivac top scored with 50 from 61.

The male U15 produced a dominant 55-run win with Mohit Malviya performing again as he top scored with 67 from 60 while also taking three wickets for one run in his solitary over.

In the male U14 match, they were defeated by the same opponents by six wickets after posting 6-196 with Brayden Ginn leading the scoring for the side with 62 from 63.

Also playing Mount Lawley, the male U13 could not defend their total of 9-158 as they lost by three wickets.

Thomas Foster scored 68 from 83, but it wasn’t enough to help the side to a total which they could defend in the 40 over match.

The female U17 fell short against Wanneroo by three wickets after they posted 9-131 from 40 overs and it was chased down in the 32nd over by their opposition.

Kaitlyn Magistro was the standout performer with 4-17 from eight overs, but it wasn’t enough to defend the modest total that was set.
