
THE Hills Football Association grand final was a tough slog in the wet for both teams but it was Swan View who claimed the 10.13 (73) to 8.12 (60) victory over Chidlow.
Swan View player Caleb Butler took early control of the ruck duels feeding the ball down to Rani Carpenter, who kicked it forward, where Jeff Ladd marked strongly and converted his kick at goal.
The Swans quickly backed that up after some elusive work on the outside by Taraia Carpenter.
Swan View’s smaller players were relishing the conditions and had three goals on the board before Chidlow could manage their first.
The Swans headed to the first break holding a 12-point lead.
The Cougars bounced back with goals to Adam McKinlay and Matthew Mallaby.
It became difficult to identify player numbers after they had been wrestling in the mud in an attempt to gain possession.
The contests crawled at times as neither team was prepared to give up an easy ball. Swans Joseph Butler, Lachlan Emmett and Jake Higgins teamed with Josh Rossen in defence, working hard to reduce the impact of Chidlow’s advances.
The Swans were held goalless for the second as the Cougars managed three goals to head into the main break holding a 10-point lead.
Their score could have been higher if they had managed to convert more of their 10 scoring shots.
The game tightened up as Taraia Carpenter added another goal to Swan View’s tally and Josh Hollingum joined in after more aerial dominance by Caleb Butler.
Harlee Fryer and Boe Hyatt imposed themselves on the contests.
Steven Scorer moved out of his backline to join Jake Forman on the ball in an attempt to offer the Cougars more run.
Alex Radonic covered most of his forward line managing a goal while taking some timely intercept marks.
By the last break the Swans had overcome their deficit, to hold a one-point lead.
Chidlow regained a five-point lead after a goal from Adam McKinlay.
The teams then went goal for goal for the next 15 minutes.
Jeff Ladd kicked accurately to put the Swans up by one point.
The next goal was crucial to both teams with the clock counting down.
Josh Hollingum kicked the ball forward where Josh Rossen marked strongly and converted his kick on goal.
Another goal to Swan View and they had secured the 2025 Hills Football Association premiership cup by 13 points.
