CITY of Swan’s Midland Guildford ward is a contest between four candidates with all but one running on a platform of Midland Guildford’s traffic issues, safety and beautification.

Midland Guildford ward’s candidates are Sarah Howlett, Neville Stewart, Declan O’Hanlon and Peter Dunne.

Ms Howlett has lived in Midland for 30 years and was serving her fourth year in the city as a councillor for the Midland Guildford ward as reported in Midland independent candidate wants traffic fixed before her term expired.

Ms Howlett thanked her ward for giving her the opportunity to represent them for the past four years in her candidate details and hoped she would be re-elected for her second term on council.

She said she’d consistently opposed rate rises, supported threatened wildlife habitats, keeping the Guildford sugar gums, and City of Swan’s move to being owl friendly.

Mr Stewart who claims decades of experience in business, police officer work and as a community group supporter, said he, like Ms Howlett, wanted to prioritise traffic and parking issues, beautification and improve community safety.

However, his pitch on his nomination form differs from Ms Howlett’s in his explicitly stated priority to support small business and to create local jobs.

Mr O’Hanlon brings his experience as an electrical engineer in the water sector to his candidacy, and also wishes to improve traffic, safety and beautify the area.

Mr Dunne is running as the independent communist candidate for Midland Guildford ward according to his candidate details.

He said he would like to see homeless support in the form of taxi, storage vouchers, 24/7 buses and trains.

Mr Dunne said in his nomination form that he intended to register as soon as possible as a lobbyist at the WA Parliament and that he backed the Legalise Cannabis Party.

He does not share the priorities of traffic, safety and beautification with the other candidates according to his nomination form details.

More candidate details across all wards may be accessed on the City of Swan’s candidate profiles webpage.
