THIS Saturday, Mundaring’s Hills Raiders open men’s team play their second game of the club’s showdown series against the Perth Wildcats.
Jump ball starts at 7pm at Mundaring Arena where the Hills community can come together to enjoy food trucks and a live court side DJ as they support championship-level basketball.
Hills Raiders Basketball Association officer Shaun Bunting said the series was created as part of a strategic push to secure an NBL1 team.
“With the goal of providing genuine opportunities and a much-needed development pathway for our ever-growing Hills Raiders basketball community,” Mr Bunting said.
The first games of the showdown were held last Saturday, which saw the men’s and women’s teams play the Joondalup Wolves.
Mr Bunting said there was great turnout from the community on the night.
“Despite a chilly Saturday night, we had a huge turnout for the opening round of the Hills Raiders showdown series at Mundaring Arena and the community support was incredible,” he said.
“The stands were packed with green and gold as families, young players and long-time supporters came together to back our men’s and women’s championship squads.”
Mr Bunting said the Wolves proved to be too good on the night as both teams took a loss.
The women’s team lost by 48 points while the men’s team lost by 19.
“While the results didn’t go our way, the energy and atmosphere were truly electric,” he said.
“There was a real buzz throughout the arena and our players were lifted by the crowd’s passion and support.”
The following Saturday on June 7, both teams will be playing the Cockburn Cougars with the women’s team playing at 6pm and the men’s team following after at 8pm.
