KALAMUNDA-born hockey player Tina Parker has been selected to play for Australia in the Masters World Cup event coming up in the Netherlands in July this year.
Now currently playing at the Kalamunda Hockey Club, as a young adult she played hockey at the highest club level in Perth with the Victoria Park Panthers, having played her first game for Mary’s Mount Primary School in an otherwise all boys team in the 1980s.
Playing as a midfielder and striker Ms Parker enjoys the contest and is willing to slide to anything in the forward D.
She has represented Western Australia many times since her first representation in 2010, going on to represent Australia in 2011 in the 35s squad.
For the upcoming tournament Ms Parker, better known as Parky, will be playing in the 50s division and has been selected in the leadership group of three along with two players from Victoria.
In the most recent National tournament, the WA state 50s team were successful in winning the gold medal against Victoria with six selections from WA making it into the Australian squad.
Mrs Parker also has junior sport connections with the High Wycombe Bulldogs Footy Club and Guildford Kalamunda Swimming Club.
The cost of getting to the Netherlands, accommodation, tournament fees and uniform costs are significant and she is asking for support and has set up a fund raising page with the aim of raising $10,000.
