AT the annual national community cricket awarding ceremony the Swan Valley Cricket Club (SVCC) was recognised for its leadership and support in building community-based initiatives.
WA Cricket said the ceremony recognised the work club volunteers did both on and off the field.
SVCC president Alby Page said it was incredible to win the community partnership award considering they were up against so many great clubs and initiatives.
“Like many sporting teams in the area, we have a wonderful committee of volunteers that work tirelessly all year round,” Mr Page said.
“To see their hard work rewarded is one of my favourite moments as president.”
WA Cricket community cricket general manager Jo Davies said community cricket wouldn’t be the way it was without the volunteers who did work behind the scenes.
“We can’t thank our volunteers enough for all they do in community cricket,” she said.
Mr Page recognised there was stigma around mental health, especially amongst men.
He said the club’s think mental health round which was held at the end of last year, the blue tree project and the work that followed from these campaigns contributed to the club being recognised for its community effort.
“Whilst the round was successful, I believe it was the work afterwards by Sandra and the others that resulted in us winning the award.
“Being able to offer a safe place for our players and members or supporters to reach out and ask for help is really important.”
He said he was pleased to know there were other clubs working hard in this space.
