RAIN delays and losses marred February’s final weekend of play for the Midland Guildford Cricket Club playing sides, while a late tenth wicket partnership by the male 2nd grade proved the difference in the match.

The senior male sides completed their two-day matches against University, while the other teams played a variety of different opponents, battling rain delays. The male 1st grade suffered a 10-wicket defeat in their match, while the male 2nd grade did not see play commence on day two of their contest.

The match did however see a remarkable 10th wicket partnership shared by Jack Giancono (77 not out off 122) and Ben Skinner (32 off 105) who together took the score in the first innings from 9/174 to 289 all out in a partnership of 115 runs.

In the male 3rd grade, the side posted a total of just 116 all out in their first innings, before dismissing their opponents for a total of just 76 and securing a 40 run first innings victory.

The male 4th grade chose to bowl first in their match and were rewarded with dismissing their opponents for a total of just 54 runs.

The side declared with a 78-run lead and began the second innings. Their opponents would manage to reach 9/111 at stumps on day two with Ethan Ozanne and Lennon Brookes finishing with figures of 4/7 off 16 overs and 2/10 off 14 overs respectively.

The female A grade faced Subiaco Floreat in their latest 50 over fixture in a match that was impacted by rain. Electing to bowl first, they limited their opponents to a total of just 97 all out.

The match resumed after a rain delay with a reduced target for the side, which was reached with only three wickets lost in a seven-wicket triumph.

The female B grade had a bye, and the female U17s and female U14s were both defeated in their matches.

The male U14s also fell short in their grand final against Subiaco Floreat and suffered a 91-run defeat, the male U17s were defeated by 64 runs, and the male U15s were unable to resume play on day two and had their match abandoned.
