MUNDARING hosted Mt Helena in round six of the Hills Football Association season and came away with a 10.20 (80) to 7.7 (49) win, which would have been bigger if not for their inaccuracy in front of goals.
A very even first quarter had Mundaring with a slender three-point lead at the first break.
Dylan O’Loghlen defended stoutly for the Roos, while Jay Duggan got the ball forward allowing Matthew Ellwood to mark and convert his kick on goal.
Oli Aitken was again the Roos’ nominated ruckman and appeared to be winning his fair share of the ruck contests.
Harrison Kelly and Brendan Agnew worked hard around the packs getting the ball out driving it into their forward line.
Robert Di Salvio started to impact the game with his hard working run off a wing, delivering accurately to forwards Andrew Freeman and Clayton Thomas.
If not for the Roos’ inaccuracy their lead would have been greater than 13 points at the main break.
A low scoring third quarter by both teams still had Mundaring’s lead manageable.
Mt Helena needed to dig deep and find more drive if they wanted to stay in the game.
Zac and Bo Read worked tirelessly in their backline.
The Roos kicked two goals, five behinds to the Lions two behinds.
Matthew Ellwood had been moved onto the ball in an attempt to offer the Lions more drive from the midfield, Rohan Murphy stepped up to offer them another scoring option. Mundaring still couldn’t control their goal-front yips scoring another six behinds for the last.
Sam Butler capped off a solid game with some strong last quarter marking.
Lachlan Nicol joined in the point kicking spree.
Eric Judd finished off his game with the Lions’ last goal for the game.
